The history of granola
Who invented granola?
Granola originally comes from America. It was invented in 1863 by an American health apostle named James Caleb Jackson. Back then he called the crunchy muesli “Granula”.
Granola owes its current name to Harvey Kellog, the inventor of cornflakes. For legal reasons, he sold the crunchy muesli in 1878 under a changed name.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is granola?
Classic granola is oat flakes baked with honey or sugar. It is also often referred to as crispy muesli or crunchy. You can buy granola in all kinds of varieties or simply make it yourself in the oven. The advantage of homemade granola: you know exactly what's in it and can add your favorite ingredients yourself, such as nuts or dried fruits.
Is crunchy muesli healthy?
Every granola contains something sweeter such as sugar, agave syrup or honey. This means that the crunchy muesli may not be as healthy as other mueslis. But granola can still contain valuable nutrients for your body. If you want to eat healthy granola, you should pay particular attention to whole grain flakes. These contain lots of valuable fiber, carbohydrates and B vitamins.
What do you use granola for?
Granola can either be eaten as a wholesome muesli with milk or used as a topping and ingredient for other dishes. The crunchy muesli goes best with fruit bowls or yoghurt. But there are no limits to your imagination here.
Why isn't my granola crispy?
If the granola is not crispy after baking, it may be due to incorrect storage. The granola will be crispiest if you let it cool down immediately after baking and then store it in an airtight box. This means the granola stays crispy and fresh for a few weeks.
Make your own granola or buy it?
Granola is now available in all sorts of flavors. Whether fruity, fresh or sweet with chocolate and berries. There is something for every taste here. However, when purchasing granola, you should take a close look at the list of ingredients. It is not uncommon to find real sugar bombs in the packs. If you make the granola yourself, you can sweeten it to your own taste and refine it with any other ingredients you like.
